Concept

Nightmare Vacation was from its creation a highly conceptual project. Frustration, ecstasy, escapism, melancholy, and lucidity were some of the main words that we kept coming back to. Rico loved the idea of the sleep state, dreams, and how they impact our waking lives.

Beyond everything, the duality of good and evil, light and dark, was the key to creating the imagery to represent the album and era that Rico was preparing to announce to the world.  Jason, Joyride's Creative Producer, came up with a napkin sketch that Rico liked.

After the napkin sketch, Joyride produced a rough concept art to pitch to APG, Rico's label. Once approved the album cover was shot in Maryland, VA. The final was produced less than a week later. Joyride handled all editing and production of the cover from the rendering of a CGI bed and compositing of weather elements.
